The audition consists of two parts:
A proposal for an artistic Research Project on the one hand and a concert-lecture on the other.
A. Proposal Artistic Research Project (Master Proposal)
The proposal is a document in which the candidate will describe the starting point and more or less concrete outlines of an artistic research project in the field of music performance. This artistic research project will be the steering topic during the postgraduate program and the activities in both the courses performance practice & arts in practice as well as in the research seminars.The proposal needs to be between 1500 and 2000 words and needs to contain the following elements:
Part 1: A Working Title + a personal statement why you are a suitable candidate for the course. What you hope to achieve during your postgraduate studies at the School of Arts and how this relates to your career aspirations. Give details of your subject interests, relevant experiences and abilities in arts.
Part 2: Discuss the research question(s) you would like to elaborate on in your artistic project, which interests, ideas and media you wish to explore through the postgraduate program and how your project would help to attain your long-term goals. Mention artistic and/or theoretical references. Illustrate how you would start up this project, on a practical and technical level as well as on the level of contents.

Part 3: Add any relevant info that can support your motivation and artistic research project.The proposal is a central part of your application and will also be a central part of the interview at the audition with the Orientation Committee. The document connects with the principle that we, as a school of arts, wish to start from the viewpoint of the student. From the start, the proposal will also lay the foundation for the ideal approach and guidance of the student and his/her idea(s).

B. Concert-Lecture and Interview
At the audition with the orientation committee the candidate gives a concert lecture of 30 minutes. A concert lecture is musical work interspersed with brief textual interventions. These interventions can be reflections on the music pieces that the candidate played, own motivations and insights herein as well as an explanation of how this musical work is linked to the formulated artistic project. The candidate prepares a minimum of 20 minutes music and 10 minutes lecture. There are no restrictions in the composition of the repertoire.After the concert lecture there will be an interview with the orientation committee. This interview will have a focus on the motivation of the candidate for the postgraduate program, a discussion on the proposal for the artistic research project as well as a conversation on the concert lecture itself.
C. Remarks: Following a motivated request by the candidate during the application procedure, the orientation committee may consider alternatives for your audition.An application may be done individually but also as an ensemble. In the second option as well as the artistic research project as the concert-lecture may be done together with the ensemble. However, if accepted, every member of the ensemble has to subscribe for the postgraduate individually.

De auditie bestaat uit twee delen:

A. Voorstel Artistiek Onderzoeksproject (Master Proposal)
Het voorstel is een document waarin de kandidaat het uitgangspunt en de min of meer concrete contouren van een artistiek onderzoeksproject op het gebied van de muziekuitvoering beschrijft. Dit artistiek onderzoeksproject zal het sturende onderwerp zijn tijdens de postgraduaatopleiding en de activiteiten in zowel de cursussen performance practice & arts in practice als in de onderzoeksseminaries.Het voorstel dient tussen de 1500 en 2000 woorden te zijn en dient de volgende elementen te bevatten:
Deel 1: Een werktitel + een persoonlijke verklaring waarom je een geschikte kandidaat bent voor de opleiding. Wat je hoopt te bereiken tijdens je postdoctorale studie aan de School of Arts en hoe dit verband houdt met je carrièreaspiraties. Geef details over uw vakinteresses, relevante ervaringen en capaciteiten in de kunsten.
Deel 2: Bespreek de onderzoeksvraag of -vragen die je wilt uitwerken in je artistieke project, welke interesses, ideeën en media je wilt verkennen via het postdoctorale programma en hoe je project zou helpen om je langetermijndoelen te bereiken. Vermeld artistieke en/of theoretische referenties. Illustreer hoe je dit project zou opstarten, zowel op praktisch en technisch als op inhoudelijk vlak.
Deel 3: Voeg alle relevante info toe die je motivatie en artistiek onderzoeksproject kan ondersteunen.Het voorstel is een centraal onderdeel van je sollicitatie en zal ook een centraal onderdeel zijn van het gesprek tijdens de auditie met de Oriëntatiecommissie. Het document sluit aan bij het principe dat we als kunstschool willen vertrekken vanuit het standpunt van de student. Vanaf het begin zal het voorstel ook de basis leggen voor de ideale benadering en begeleiding van de student en zijn/haar idee(ën).
B. Concertlezing en Interview
Bij de auditie met de oriëntatiecommissie geeft de kandidaat een concertlezing van 30 minuten. Een concertlezing is muzikaal werk afgewisseld met korte tekstuele interventies. Deze interventies kunnen reflecties zijn op de muziekstukken die de kandidaat heeft gespeeld, eigen motivaties en inzichten hierin en een toelichting hoe dit muziekwerk samenhangt met het geformuleerde artistieke project. De kandidaat bereidt minimaal 20 minuten muziek en 10 minuten voordracht voor. Er zijn geen beperkingen in de samenstelling van het repertoire.Na de concertlezing volgt een interview met de oriëntatiecommissie. Dit gesprek zal gaan over de motivatie van de kandidaat voor het postgraduaat, een bespreking van het voorstel voor het artistiek onderzoeksproject en een gesprek over de concertlezing zelf.
C. Opmerkingen: Op gemotiveerd verzoek van de kandidaat tijdens de sollicitatieprocedure, kan de oriëntatiecommissie alternatieven overwegen voor uw auditie. Een aanvraag kan individueel gebeuren, maar ook als ensemble. In de tweede optie kunnen zowel het artistiek onderzoeksproject als de concertlezing samen met het ensemble worden gedaan. Indien aanvaard, moet elk lid van het ensemble zich individueel inschrijven voor het postgraduaat.

The programme: some explanation
In our postgraduate Musical Performance Practice program, as a performing musician (individual or ensemble), you have the opportunity to devote a year to a clearly defined artistic research project under the guidance of one or more instructors at the Ghent Conservatory. These instructors are specialists in performance practice, musicologists and Masters in the Arts.
At the core of this program, you will use a concrete research project in order to focus on the interpretation and performance practice of old or new music. You specialize in the development and testing of new performance methods, based on historic, musicological and personal artistic investigation.
In addition to conducting your own artistic research project, as part of the Arts in Practice segment of the program, you are thoroughly active in the world of the performing arts. Here, the Ghent School of Arts helps putting you in touch with its extensive network of professional partners.
Finally, you will place your own research in a broader perspective by taking part in specific and targeted investigation.

In onze postgraduaatopleiding Muzikale Uitvoeringspraktijk krijg je als uitvoerend musicus (individueel of ensemble) de kans om je een jaar lang te wijden aan een welomschreven artistiek onderzoeksproject onder begeleiding van één of meerdere docenten van het Conservatorium Gent. Deze docenten zijn specialisten in de uitvoeringspraktijk, musicologen en Masters in the Arts.
De kern van dit programma wordt gevormd door een concreet onderzoeksproject waarin je je richt op de interpretatie en uitvoeringspraktijk van oude of nieuwe muziek. Je specialiseert je in het ontwikkelen en testen van nieuwe uitvoeringsmethoden, gebaseerd op historisch, musicologisch en persoonlijk artistiek onderzoek.
Naast het uitvoeren van een eigen artistiek onderzoeksproject ben je in het kader van het programmaonderdeel Kunst in de Praktijk volop actief in de wereld van de podiumkunsten. Hier helpt de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten je in contact te komen met haar uitgebreide netwerk van professionele partners.
Tot slot plaats je je eigen onderzoek in een breder perspectief door deel te nemen aan specifiek en gericht onderzoek.
