Your invitation to an audition and/or interview is decided upon on the basis of a master proposal or motivation letter and/or a portfolio. Here, we explain what they are, what the requirements and who must submit these items.

Master-na-Master
The Master Proposal is an important document in your application, because it will be one of the documents used in the decision to invite you to the interview/audition rounds. Every application file must therefore contain a master proposal and a portfolio.
The proposal contains the starting point and outlines of your artistic research for the master programme. It is a motivation written from the viewpoint of your personal history as an artist or art student. The document needs to be between 1500 and 2000 words (except for Graphic Design where the master proposal is limited to 750 words) and needs to contain the following elements:
Part 1: A Working Title + a personal statement why you are a suitable candidate for the course. What you hope to achieve during your studies at the School of Arts and how this relates to your career aspirations. Give details of your subject interests, relevant experiences and abilities in arts.
Part 2: Discuss the research question(s) you would like to develop on in your artistic master project. Describe which interests, ideas and media you wish to explore through the master program and how your master project would help to attain your long-term goals. Mention artistic and/or theoretical references. Illustrate how you would start up this master project, on a practical and technical level as well as on the level of contents. Define a possible theme for your master thesis and explain how this thesis could support you in your artistic process. The master proposal describes in general terms what you hope to achieve by means of artistic research and will often already form the (general) basis of the student’s master projects and thesis. (This does not mean, however, that your master proposal pins you down to an unchangeable viewpoint or basis for your master study, since any artistic process is and should be open to change and evolution).
Part 3: Add any relevant info that can support your motivation and research project. The master proposal is a central part of your application and will also be a central part of the interview or audition with the Orientation Committee.
Applications without a master proposal are inadmissible.

Het Mastervoorstel is een belangrijk document in je aanmelding, omdat het één van de documenten zal zijn die worden gebruikt bij de beslissing om je uit te nodigen voor de interview-/auditierondes. Elk aanmeldingsdossier moet daarom een master proposal en een portfolio bevatten.
Het voorstel bevat het uitgangspunt en de hoofdlijnen van je artistiek onderzoek voor de masteropleiding. Het is een motivatie geschreven vanuit je persoonlijke geschiedenis als kunstenaar of kunststudent. Het document moet tussen de 1500 en 2000 woorden zijn (behalve voor Grafisch Ontwerp waar het mastervoorstel beperkt is tot 750 woorden) en moet de volgende elementen bevatten:
Deel 1: Een werktitel + een persoonlijke verklaring waarom je een geschikte kandidaat bent voor de opleiding. Wat je hoopt te bereiken tijdens je studie aan de School of Arts en hoe dit verband houdt met je carrièreaspiraties. Geef details over je vakinteresses, relevante ervaringen en capaciteiten in de kunsten.
Deel 2: Bespreek de onderzoeksvraag of -vragen die je in je artistieke masterproject wilt uitwerken. Beschrijf welke interesses, ideeën en media je via het masterprogramma wilt onderzoeken en hoe je masterproject zou bijdragen tot het bereiken van je langetermijndoelen. Vermeld artistieke en/of theoretische referenties. Illustreer hoe je dit masterproject zou opstarten, zowel op praktisch en technisch als op inhoudelijk vlak. Bepaal een mogelijk thema voor je masterthesis en leg uit hoe deze thesis je zou kunnen ondersteunen in je artistieke proces. Het mastervoorstel beschrijft in algemene termen wat je hoopt te bereiken door middel van artistiek onderzoek en zal vaak al de (algemene) basis vormen voor de masterprojecten en scriptie van de student. (Dit betekent echter niet dat je mastervoorstel je vastpint op een onveranderlijk standpunt of basis voor je masterstudie, want elk artistiek proces is en moet openstaan voor verandering en evolutie).
Deel 3: Voeg alle relevante info toe die je motivatie en onderzoeksproject kan ondersteunen. Het mastervoorstel is een centraal onderdeel van je aanvraag en zal ook een centraal onderdeel zijn van het interview of de auditie met de Oriëntatiecommissie.
Aanvragen zonder master proposal zijn niet ontvankelijk.

Candidates will need to provide a portfolio in two stages of the application procedure:
1. A digital portfolio when submitting your online application.
You will need to upload links to an online portfolio or upload a PDF portfolio in the application form.We do not accept portfolios in physical format (usb, dvd, paper …).

2. A physical portfolio at the time of the interview.
This may be combined with the digital portfolio that you already submitted. Portable digital portfolios are allowed here. During the interview the candidate can give a short presentation of his/her portfolio. Please note that each interview lasts about 25 minutes. The artistic portfolio is a presentation of the artistic evolution during the previous studies or in the past 5 years. It can contain documentation on artistic work as well as reproductions of artistic work. The candidate should restrict him/her/Xself to relevant work (artistic work that is relevant to the candidates’ artistic process, his/her/X’s artistic goals and master proposal).
Applications without a portfolio are inadmissible!

De kandidaten moeten in twee fasen van de procedure een portfolio voorleggen:
1. Een digitaal portfolio bij het indienen van uw online sollicitatie.
Hier dien je links naar een online portfolio uploaden of een PDF-portfolio uploaden in het Cognitoformulier .Wij accepteren geen portfolio's in fysiek formaat (usb, dvd, papier ...).
2. Een fysiek portfolio op het moment van het gesprek.
Dit mag gecombineerd worden met het digitale portfolio dat je al hebt ingeleverd. Draagbare digitale portfolio's zijn hier toegestaan (Computer, dvd, usb ... ). Tijdens het interview kan de kandidaat een korte presentatie geven van zijn/haar/hun portfolio. Elk interview duurt ongeveer 25 minuten. Het artistiek portfolio is een presentatie van de artistieke evolutie tijdens de vorige studies of in de afgelopen 5 jaar. Het kan zowel documentatie over artistiek werk als reproducties van artistiek werk bevatten. De kandidaat moet zich beperken tot relevant werk (artistiek werk dat relevant is voor het artistieke proces van de kandidaat, zijn/haar/hun artistieke doelstellingen en het mastervoorstel).
Aanvragen zonder portfolio zijn niet ontvankelijk!

For certain education programmes, the artistic practice does not warrant a master proposal. A one page motivation letter on why you wish to come and study in the particular programme will do.

Voor een aantal afstudeerrichtingen vereist de artistieke praktijk geen mastervoorstel. In dit geval kan een motivatiebrief van maximum 1 pagina waarin je aangeeft waarom je in de richting wil studeren volstaan.
