Can I apply if I do not have my diploma yet?

Yes, that is perfectly possible. If you are a foreign candidate, we advise and encourage you to apply in the earliest possible session, even if you do not have your diploma yet. The condition here is that you will obtain your diploma at the end of this academic year. You will be able to indicate this in the application form you need to submit.

2

Can I apply after deadline for master or postgrad?

That is possible, but your application will be transferred to the next application round. If you miss the deadline for the last available application round, we will only be able to consider your application if time and organisation of work allow us to.

3

Do I have to pay at the time I enroll ?

Moet ik al betalen bij inschrijving ?

No. After you enroll, you will receive the invoice for your tuition fee (and studio fee, if this applies) in your student mailbox in the days/week after you enroll. You then still have time until the pay-by date on that invoice to transfer your invoiced fees.

4

Can I pay my fees in instalments ?

Kan ik mijn facturen in schijven betalen ?

Yes, that is possible. You will need to contact the Student Aid Department at zorg@hogent.be after you have enrolled with us to ask about this.

5

When is the best time to apply?

Wanneer kandideer ik het beste?

As soon or early as possible. We advise foreign candidates to make use of the earliest possible intake moment. This ensures enough time afterwards to take care of administrative and practical processes (legalisation of documents, finding a place to live, obtaining student visa ...) before the academic year starts.

6

Does the school provide housing?

Voorziet de school in woonplaatsen?

No, we do not. The University College has dorm buildings, but they are strictly reserved to students who do not need to establish their official address of residence there (Exchange students, short term stays, Belgians, French, Dutch or Germans ... ). Good places to start looking are listed here below, but always remember : Before you sign a contract or pay anything, try to make double sure that you are not walking in to a scam ! Questions and advice about housing can be directed at huisvesting@hogent.be

I don't speak Dutch. Can I study at the School of Arts?

Yes, and also : no.

Our professional bachelor programmes require that you speak Dutch at the Vantage B2 level from the very start. You'll need to prove this by either a language certificate or the clear proof that you have already followed a full academic year in Dutch instructed secondary or higher education.

For the academic bachelor programmes, prior knowledge is not required, but you'll need to present us with an enrolment form from an officially recognized language school before we will be able to enroll you.

Can I find out what subjects are in the programmes?

Yes, on https://ects.hogent.be

13

I don't have a bachelor in creative or performing arts. Can I apply for one the programmes?

No, this is a strict requirement, for the majority of our programmes. The only programmes you can apply for without a bachelor in performing or creative arts are the bachelor programmes, the master in autonomous design and the postgraduate programme in curatorial studies.

This also applies to bridging programmes (= programme targeted at holders of a professional bachelor degree in creative or performing arts) and preparation programmes (= programme targeted at holders of an academic bachelor degree in creative or performing arts, but in a different artistic discipline than the one applied for ... )

14

Why are there different sessions for interviews/auditions/artistic entrance examinations?

Waarom zijn er verschillende toelatingsmomenten?

In order to cater to as many students as possible, we offer different orientation moments. All of these aim at the official start of the academic year at the end of September. We advise foreign candidates to participate in the earliest possible round, because this then allows for more time to take care of all formalities and practical arrangements preceding the start of the academic year.
