Can I apply if I do not have my diploma yet?
Kan ik aanmelden wanneer ik mijn diploma nog niet heb?

Yes, if you do not have your diploma yet, but will obtain it this academic year, you can apply and indicate in the Cognito application form that you will graduate this year.

Ja. Wanneer je je diploma nog niet hebt, maar dat dit jaar wel denkt te behalen, kun je aanmelden en onder voorbehoud van diploma deelnemen aan intakemomenten. Je dient dit dan zo aan te duiden op het Cognito-aanmeldingsformulier.

Can I apply after deadline for master or postgrad?
Kan ik na de deadline nog aanmelden voor een master of postgraduaat?

Yes. You can still apply after deadline, but you will automatically be transferred to the next application round. If you missed the deadline for the last application round, the admissions officer cannot guarantee that your application will be processed because priority is given to the applications that reach us in time.

Ja. Je kunt na deadline nog indienen, maar je aanmelding wordt dan automatisch doorverwezen naar de volgende intakeronde. Indien je de deadline voor de laatste intakeronde miste, kan de admissions officer niet meer garanderen dat je aanmelding nog wordt verwerkt.

Do I have to pay at the time I enroll ?

Moet ik al betalen bij inschrijving ?

No. The invoices for your tuition fee and studio fee do not need to be paid at the time you enroll. They will be sent to your student e-mail address about two weeks after your enrolment and will need to be paid per bank transfer.

Nee. De facturen voor het inschrijvingsgeld en bijzondere studiekost worden een tweetal weken na je inschrijving naar je studentenmailadres verstuurd en dienen dan per overschrijving te worden betaald.

Can I pay my fees in instalments ?

Kan ik mijn facturen in schijven betalen ?

Yes, this is normally possible, but is decided upon by the Student Aid Department (cfr. section on "Financial Advice". You will need to contact them for an appointment during which this question is evaluated on an individual basis.

Ja, dit kan normaalgezien wel, maar wordt beslist door de Dienst Studentenvoorzieningen (cfr. hoofdstuk "Financial Advice"). Je zult met de dienst een afspraak moeten maken. Daar wordt dan individueel bekeken wat mogelijk is.

When is the best time to apply?

Wanneer kandideer ik het beste?

As soon as possible. All intake moments target the start of the academic year (end of September), but we advise international students to apply in the earliest round available to make sure that they can still take care of administrative formalities (such as diploma authentication, visa applications, looking for a place to stay ...) in time before the start of the academic year.

Zo snel mogelijk: alle intakemomenten richten zich op de start van het academiejaar (eind september), maar wij raden internationale kandidaten aan deel te nemen aan de vroegst mogelijke intakesessie, om ervoor te zorgen dat alle administratieve formaliteiten (diploma waarmerken, aanvraag visum, een woonplaats vinden ...) tijdig kunnen worden in orde gebracht voor de start van het academiejaar.

Does the school provide housing?

Voorziet de school in woonplaatsen?

No. The school effectively has a number of dorm rooms, but they are reserved to students who do not need to register their domicile address there (Belgians and Erasmus-students). If you wish to find a place to live, you will need to find it on your own initiative. The housing department of the University College can give you advice, though.

Neen, internationale studenten die hun domicilie in België dienen te vestigen, kunnen geen gebruik maken van de kamers die de Hogeschool Gent ter beschikking heeft. De dienst huisvesting van de Hogeschool Gent kan je echter wel bijstaan met advies en informatie.

I  have a residence permit for a European country. Do I need to pay the higher tuition fee for non-EEA students?

Ik heb een verblijfsvergunning voor een Europese lidstaat. Moet ik dan ook het verhoogd inschrijvingsgeld voor niet-Europese studenten betalen?

Yes. The tuition fee is based on nationality, not on residence permit. However, it might be interesting to check whether you fall into on of the categories of students who are exempted from higher tuition fees or to check our scholarship possibilites.

Ja, het inschrijvingsgeld is namelijk gebaseerd op nationaliteit en niet op verblijfsvergunning. Het kan echter de moeite lonen om na te gaan of je niet behoort tot één van de studentencategorieën die vrijgesteld worden van verhoogd inschrijvingsgeld of om onze beursmogelijkheden te bekijken.

I don't speak Dutch. Can I study at the School of Arts?

Yes. And also no.

Yes, it is possible to enter and study in our academic bachelor programmes without prior knowledge of Dutch. To get enrolled for the academic bachelor programmes, you will have to provide an enrolment certficate from an officially recognized school for Dutch language instruction. In your first year, you will then be assigned to practical subjects only, which leaves you the time to study Dutch during that first year. In your second year, you will then pick up the first year theoretical subjects, etc. ...

No, it is not possible to enroll in our professional bachelor programmes (= Interior Design and Landscape & Garden Architecture) or our Educational Master programmes without prior knowledge of Dutch. We do, however, offer the possiblity of following a language preparation year.

Does the School of Arts provide language courses?

No, the School of Arts does not host or organize Dutch or English language courses. For this, you will need to enroll in an external language institute. A few examples have been listed in our info section on languages.

Neen, de School of Arts organiseert geen taalcursussen. Daarvoor moet je aankloppen bij een extern instituut voor Nederlands of Engels taalonderricht. Een aantal voorbeelden werden opgelijst in het infoluik m.b.t. talen.

Can I find out what subjects are in the programmes?

Kan ik de vakken van de programma's ergens raadplegen?

Yes, all subjects for all of our programmes are listed in https://ects.hogent.be. Choose the correct academic year and programme and you will find an overview of the subjects, their contents, way of examination, who teaches them ... 

Ja: op https://ects.hogent.be staan de studiefiches voor alle vakken in onze verschillende opleidingen. Kies eerst voor het juiste academiejaar en de juiste richting en je zult een overzicht van de vakken in het programma terugvinden met een beschrijving van de inhoud, examineerwijze, docenten ...
